Animated Zombies

This page is to show the development of my Animated Zombies animations. There will be the original animation, at the bottom of the page.

These two images are the original character designs for 'Animated Zombies'.
The top image is the finished designs and the bottom one is from the original idea. It was decided on to settle on a simple idea where the Zombie would be going about daily routines, and for 'events' to happen. The Zombie would then attempt to interact with these 'events' in an almost Mr. Bean way. However, with him being a Zombie the character was able to take part in a way that Mr. Bean would never be able to have done so.
The original idea was a dystopian view of the world where people would turn into Zombies whenever they put on their headphones for their MP3 players. The idea was that the only way to defeat these Zombies was by using more traditional music devices to destroy the MP3 players. Such as, CD's and Records to slice the cables or cassette grenades.
The above image is a slightly earlier version of the finished Zombie, showing a more grotesque version that has brains showing as well as ripped and patched clothing and a massive head wound exposing the brain.

I noticed that whilst designing 'Animated Zombies' all of my character designs were male in origin. To redress this balance I did this character sheet for a female zombie, with several different heads (displaying different hairstyles) that would show what the female zombies of the 'Animated Zombies' world would look like.
Whilst still in the development stages I was researching different styles for what the 'Animated Zombies' world would look like. The image, above left, shows one of the discarded ideas. This was done at the time as it was decided that this would be a too complex design to animated with the limited time available. So from this the natural progression was to the second image, above right, that still shows similar animated content but without the photographic backgrounds.
This design can be seen in the images WTD - SB1 and WTD - SB2 below, which show the storyboards for what would actually happen in the first clip.

As an extra design to compliment the design work I had already done, I decided to transfer the designs from a storyboard template into that of a comic strip template, as seen above and below. I felt that this was a logical step to follow, as it showed the potential for marketing.

The next three images show stills taken from the first three clips of 'Animated Zombies'.

The three designs immediately below show drawing practice that I carried out by taking photos of friends and then transforming them into Zombies.

This is the original finished version of Animated Zombies.
